Adaptive Balancing Strategy for Cell Capacitor Voltage in a Modular Multilevel Converter

Due to the modular structure and voltage scalable features, Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has become an alternative converter for high medium voltage-based transmission systems. Apart from this, MMC edible features in controlling real reactive power a high-voltage system compared conventional converter. However, some of technical challenges such as control complexity when subjected more levels, capacitor balancing issues, increase ripples, DC fault handling, circulating current affect performance various applications. In this paper, adaptive strategy is proposed each cell connected MMC. This approach balances floating simplified manner henceforth reduces ripples permissible limit. addition, present circuit will be suppressed comparison method. The investigated under operating conditions analyze effective traditional technique. A comparative study presented with parameters performed using MATLAB Simulink software.
